This is an appeal to all the rich black men and women all over the world.  The time has come to ask a simple question:  What have you really done for your own black people?

Many in the black community live in the expectation that one day there will be those who will reach out and change the financial impoverishment of our people.

Like a lot of people, next Sunday I'll be honoring my dear ol' dad – perhaps in the form of a Home Depot gift card.  Because nothing says "thank you for life, love and shelter" like new electrical outlet covers.

But being that I was partially raised by a 1981 television set, I can’t forget to pay tribute to the other dads in my life -- …

I don't consider myself a fashion expert by any stretch of the imagination. However, I do appreciate when style is done right. When a person's style is authentic and comes off flawlessly it can be quite an aesthetically pleasing thing. Is that weird? Maybe, I am more into fashion than I originally thought. Either way here is some interesting style images and some background info along with it.

Peach, Basil and Goat Cheese Salad

So pretty right? Sometimes a salad is exactly what I need with dinner - so bright, fresh, crunchy, tangy - all the right flavors for a satisfying and healthy dish. Occasionally I get lazy, and think that putting together a salad involves a lot of steps. Don't ask me why, when I'm happy to create a complicated multi-step entree, but its the same with sandwiches.

If Tim and I had our own version of engagement chicken, this homemade pesto would be it. I made it for him two summers ago, when we had been dating for about 6 months. He still raves about it. While he obviously didn't propose right away, I have a hunch he might have been hooked after that - he rarely orders pasta at restaurants because he says he's always disappointed when he does!

I'll just let that sink in for a quick second.

Sparkling. Watermelon lemonade. On the rocks.

I've been guzzling tons of smoothies and fun drinks this week while experimenting and coming up with recipes for this special cold-drink concoction week and dare I say it? I think this is my favorite drink so far. I don't know if it's the fizz action, the playful splash of citrus, or the frozen chunks of watermelon left at the end, but this glass of sparkling watermelon lemonade was gone faster than you can say the name of the drink.

I have long heard about the wonder of garlic scapes, but had never actually seen them before.  Not usually sold in grocery stores, nor in the big but run-of-the-mill farmer's market of my rather provincial hometown, scapes are the green tops of garlic.  They are harvested once a year to give the bulb of the garlic a chance to develop, and contain the flavor of garlic without the extreme bite.
