Dr. William Harvey on the State of HBCUs: “Disappointed And Saddened”

During a recent meeting in Washington, Dr. William Harvey, longtime president of Hampton University and Chairman of President Obama’s Board of Advisors on HBCUs expressed his discontent with the lack of attention that has been put on historically black colleges and universities within our country. Funding for HBCUs have been on the decline and Dr. Harvey believes it’s because of the lack of support from federal agencies and that members of President Obama’s Advisory Board on HBCUs should have the opportunity to put their resources to use. “I have to say that one of my biggest concerns or regrets is that we are not being used as the advisory board we are supposed to be,” said Dr. Harvey during his address. “All this expertise – more than 150 years at the helm of HBCUs, decades as the heads of major philanthropic organizations, expertise in business, in fundraising and…
