Two students at a New Jersey Shore high school dressed up as monkeys with bananas, and taunted players on a mostly black team during a recent basketball game.
According to reports, the students were warned but not punished even though the Holy Spirit High School’s athletic director admits their actions violated league rules.
The Press of Atlantic City reported The Cape-Atlantic League’s supervising board of referees said the students at Holy Spirit High School acted offensively during the game against Atlantic City last week.
Jay Connell, Holy Spirit’s athletic director, acknowledged the actions violated league rules on sportsmanship and promised it would not happen again.
